Just like every other contract, roofing contract is also necessary to sign before starting the job. Here are some reasons why it is important to sign a roofing contract:
Every roofing contract should include the following things:
Details of the business:
Every contract has the details of the business and name and contact information od all the parties involved. A roofing contract is just the same, it should have every detail of the business and the project as well as the name, email, address, and contact information of the contractor and their client. Roofing contractor should also provide with the information that they are following the laws of the state, or the country and they are aware of the zoning notices, licenses, required permits and inspections.
Scope of work:
A roofing contract should include each detail about the job that is required by the client. It should have all the information of each task that is to be performed by the contractor. All the labor and materials that are required by the contractor to do the job should also be written down in the contract.
Time period of the contract:
In most cases, a roofing contractor starts the job around five to six weeks after the contract is signed. This part should be included in the contract so that the client and the contractor are on the same page about when the work will start and how long it will take to finish the job. If the client is not made aware of the time period of the work, there can be misunderstanding and complications between the two parties.
It is the responsibility of the contractor to inform the client about the time period of the contract and exact date when they will start working. If the contractor does not show up to work on the date mentioned, it can be taken as breach of contract by the client.
Materials Required:
It should be written in the contract if the contractor requires the client to pay for the materials that are needed for the project. And if the contractor is bringing the materials themselves then that should be mentioned in the contract as well.
All the materials and services included within the scope of job should be included in the contract. If these things are not mentioned in the contract, then permit acquisition fee, cleanup, and disposal service are topics that should be discussed between the two parties.
Payment policies:
The most important part of the contract is including the payment policies. Payment methods should be discussed by the parties and written down in the contract once both parties have come to an agreement about the payment. It is important to note that the contractor and the client are both on the same page about the payments in order to avoid any complications in the future.
In case of unfortunate circumstances, there is a delay in the money or there is cancellation of the project, a refund clause should be included in the contract.
Cancellation of the project:
A roofing contract should also state the terms to cancel the contract as well as the notice that should be provided and payments that are needed to be made after the cancellation of the project. In case the roofer has already incurred costs of the materials and the client wants to cancel the contract, the roofer expects the client to pay for the materials that they have already bought.
A roofing contract is a legally binding contract, so it is important to have a member of legal team present at the time when contract is signed. If there is a lawyer present while the contract is getting signed, they will help in providing guidance and if anything goes wrong in the future the issue can be taken to the court and resolved the right way.
